Veterinary Clinic "U Weterynarza" Adam Sobotka

The clinic was established in 2007 by veterinarian Adam Sobotka (a graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Agricultural and Technical University in Olsztyn; he has three specializations: diseases of dogs and cats, veterinary surgery, and veterinary radiology;)

The clinic is located in Gdańsk Przymorze, near Reagan Park, Czarny Dwór 14 (Jelitkowski Dwór estate). In 2010, a second branch of the clinic was established in Pruszcz Gdański, Cyprysowa Street 2.

At "U Weterynarza" we have been providing healthcare for animals at every stage of their lives. We focus on prevention as well as diagnosing and treating diseases of dogs and cats. Thanks to our knowledge, experience, and dedication, we offer assistance in both everyday preventive care and in cases of complicated health issues.

The clinic's branches are equipped with professional operating and treatment rooms and modern diagnostic equipment, which allows us to thoroughly understand the health condition of the animals. No appointment is necessary – the order of appointments is based on the order of arrival at the clinic. Each patient is treated by us individually - we dedicate it our attention and the necessary amount of time. For this reason, we do not set strict time limits for a visit. We strive to ensure comfort for both patients and their caregivers during their visit at "U Weterynarza".

Every visit starts with a clinical examination and an interview. We always prioritize the well-being of the patient - based on the symptoms and the information provided to us, we decide on further actions. The treatment is tailored to the individual needs of the patient!

WORTH REMEMBERING

Recommendations before visiting "U Weterynarza"

Do not overfeed your pet - a full stomach prevents us from thoroughly examining the patient, and the animal may feel discomfort during the examination! During specialist consultations, the animal should always be fasting in case additional tests or sedation are necessary;

Please provide documentation of previous treatments, test results (X-ray images, ultrasound descriptions, blood test results, etc.). If the patient is on any medications or suffers from a chronic illness – inform the doctor about it at the beginning of the visit!

Patients waiting in the waiting room should be on a leash (preferably short) or in a carrier. For anxious animals, we recommend the company of two adults and having a fabric muzzle (for dogs).

All surgical procedures, specialist consultations, ultrasound examinations, and X-rays must be scheduled in advance – please contact us by phone or in person at the clinic!

We understand that a visit to the clinic may be stressful for both patients and their guardians, which is why we make every effort to ensure that your meeting with us takes place in a friendly and calm atmosphere. We will keep you informed about what we are doing and what tests we want to perform. If you have any doubts, don't hesitate to ask questions! During examinations, pay attention to your pet – talk to them, pet them – this way they will know that they can rely on you. A calm guardian means a calm patient!

Collecting stool samples

the stool should be collected into a special container (to be obtained at the Clinic or purchased at a pharmacy);
samples of about 1cm x 1cm should be collected over three days (into one container);
the properly secured material should be stored in the refrigerator until delivery;

Collecting urine samples

urine should be collected into a special container (available for purchase at the pharmacy);
cats - there is an option to buy special litter for urine collection (available for purchase at the Clinic or at specialized pet stores);
the urine should be delivered as soon as possible after collection (within 2 hours) – until then, the container should be kept in the refrigerator;
if you have trouble catching the urine stream, you can help yourself with a sterilized ladle (scoop);

Blood tests

the animal must be fasting for a minimum of 8 hours; for some tests, e.g. pancreatic parameters this time extends to 10-12 hours;
very young animals should arrive fasting for at least 5 hours;
constant access to water (we encourage drinking! – proper hydration of the patient's body will facilitate blood flow during collection);
when checking thyroid hormones in patients treated for hypothyroidism, it is necessary to take blood after fasting for 4 hours after medication administration;
before the test, it is necessary to avoid intense physical effort which may affect abnormalities in the interpretation of some parameters;

COLLECTING SAMPLES FOR TESTING

Laboratory tests at "U Weterynarza"

We collect samples for testing (blood, urine, feces, scrapings, etc.) from Monday to Friday at the clinic in Gdańsk until 4 PM, at the clinic in Pruszcz Gdański until 2 PM. This is correlated with the estimated time for sample collection by the diagnostic laboratory – sometimes the courier arrives later, so we can occasionally collect samples after the times mentioned above. Most basic results we receive the next day – if you would like to discuss them by phone, it is safest to contact the clinic between 2 PM and 5 PM.

ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION at "U WETERYNARZA"

Preparation for the ultrasound examination

a light diet is recommended 2 days before the examination;
on an empty stomach for at least12 hours before the examination;
the last meal before the examination should be light – we do not recommend dry food;
constant access to water;
in the case of a bladder examination, the animal should be prevented from urinating 2-3 hours before the examination;
please provide documentation of previous treatment, test results, etc.;
give the animal Espumisan in the doses and intervals specified by the veterinarian – please contact the Clinic;
the ultrasound examination is painless and usually takes place in a lying position, often requiring shaving in the examined area;
if your pet is anxious, we recommend that two adults come for the examination, which will help stabilize the patient and ensure the examination is performed accurately. In the case of an animal that cannot remain in a lying position, the veterinarian may recommend administering a sedative beforehand;

X-RAY EXAM at "U WETERYNARZA"

Preparation for the X-ray exam

during the exam, the animal must remain still for a moment so that the X-ray image is diagnostic, therefore in the case of restless patients, we recommend that they are accompanied by a person the patient feels most comfortable with!
the doctor will provide detailed instructions on how to hold and immobilize your pet in the required position;
in special cases the doctor may recommend administering sedatives in advance;
in some cases (e.g. X-ray of the hips for dysplasia) the exam is performed under anesthesia, therefore, in case of possible sedation, the patient on the day of the exam should be fasting for at least 10 hours - ask the doctor for details when scheduling the appointment!

DERMATOLOGIST at "U WETERYNARZA"

Preparation for a dermatological consultation

during a visit related to skin problems, we often collect samples for testing, therefore it is not recommended to disinfect or wash skin lesions, bathe the animal, and in the case of ears – to clean and remove discharge or administer any medication before the visit;
it is best if the pet is accompanied by the guardian who has the most information and most often observes the pet;
please provide documentation of previous treatments, results of earlier tests;
prepare information on prevention against ectoparasites (when and what was administered last time), the time of the last heat , the type and composition of the diet (brand, type, flavor - a photo of the label with the composition on the packaging is acceptable), permanently taken medications or previously diagnosed chronic diseases;

SURGERY at "U WETERYNARZA"

Preparation for surgical procedures

surgical procedures at "U Weterynarza", except emergency cases, are are planned procedures - during the visit to the clinic, an assessment will be made to qualify for the procedure ;
you will receive information about preparation for the procedure, its details and planned course, possible costs and associated risks;
if the patient is regularly taking any medications or suffers from a chronic illness , inform the veterinarian - it is recommended to provide documentation of previous treatments along with results of earlier tests;
not later than two days before the procedure, a blood test should be performed (fasting for at least 8 hours );
in older animals or predisposed breeds, the veterinarian may recommend additional tests (thyroid hormone levels, echocardiogram, urine analysis etc.);
on the day of the procedure, the animal:
- must be fasting for at least 12 hours,
- have constant access to water,
- if your pet regularly takes medication, consult its administration on the day of the procedure,
- the day of the procedure should be a calm day both before and after the procedure, you should take the dog for a walk but avoid excessive exertion;
we recommend that in the initial stage of sedation the canine patient stays with the guardian, cats are less demanding!
after the procedure the patient rests in a designated area where we monitor its condition;
please contact us by phone to arrange the pick-up time;
during the pick-up, we will inform you how the procedure went , what the prognosis and condition of the animal are, we will provide recommendations regarding post-operative care and follow-up visits - most procedures require a follow-up the next day, taking anti-inflammatory medications or antibiotics;
at home, it is advisable to prepare a calm place for resting after the procedure and access to water;
at least in the first day after the procedure, monitor your pet's condition continuously; in case of any concerning symptoms, contact the veterinarian!
